The origin of Caspar Hauser is very was found near the gate of the city of Nurem-berg, seemingly very much frightened at every-thing he saw, and not understanding a word thatwas spoken. The city authorities took him incharge and educated him, always keeping himcarefully guarded, lest any attempt should be madeto take him away. He had no recollection what-ever of his former life, except that he was alwaysin the dark, and never saw any one, — his foodbeing put through a hole by an invisible hand.
