The flat drills for this chuck arenotched, at intervals, along one edge, and the spindle for holding the drill iscut so that the long notched end of flatdrill passes up into it. Over the top ofthe spindle a case is slipped whichscrews down to a collar and is held in. CHUCK FOR FL.\T DRILLS position by a nut run down above case is recessed out inside so thatalthough it will just contain the drillholder, having a diameter of 2-h ins.,yet has a pair of crescent shaped cavi-ties on two sides. The tool holder isslotted so as to receive two keys, oneof them having a projection which fitsthe notches in the flat drill. These keysare able to slide in and out of the slotsin the toql holder. The keys are keptin place by two pins which prevent their falling into the space occupiedby the drill alter it has been taken cannot get out at the back whenthe case is in place, so they stay wherethey are, being able to close in on theedges of the drill or move back andfree it. Tlie method of forcing them to closein on the drill, is to revolve the ma-chine spindle through part of a turnwhile holding the drill fast. The keysstand away from the drill when
