This cutaneous sleeve is continuous with the amniotic tissues. The entire umbilical cord is therefore enveloped in an amniotic-cutaneous sheath. It is composed of four principal structures—the umbilical arteries, the umbilical vein, the urachus, and the interstitial mucous tissue.
