Trained golden eagle, Genghis Khan monument, Tuul River, Tsonjin Boldog, Mongolia

A giant steel statue of Genghis Khan (Chinngis Khaan) is built on the steppes near Ulaan Baatar. It is 40 meters tall and dominates the horizon above the Tuul River. It was erected at the site where legend has it Genghis Khan, at the age of 15, found a golden whip that inspired him to go on and conquer much of the known world, which after his death became the largest contiguous empire in history. The round building at the bottom is home to an interesting museum of artefacts from the era of Genghis Khan and his mounted horsemen. Mongolian horsemen have a long history of training golden eagles and Cinereous vultures for hunting.
