B. F. Letson, of Carbone's, will lecture on "Flower Arrangement" and will give numerous practical demonstra- tions. Members are asked to contribute freely of seasonable flowers, in order that an abundance of suitable material may be available. There was an excellent attendance at the Arnold Arboretum April 16, when Prof. J. G. Jack conducted the first of his Saturday classes. There are many interesting and attractive shrubs al- ready in bloom there. Japanese cher- ries, plums, forsythias, spiraeas, loni- ceras and rhododendrons are among those seen and commented on. Serious damage was done to the American elms in Cambridge and other sections by the severe frost of April 11. A great proportion of the l)uds Avere Jjlackened and have since fallen off. We are having a most erratic season and a sharp drop in temperature April 17 undoubtedly caused additional dam- age. A unique exhibition of greenhouse- forced New England orchids will be held at Horticultural hall April 23 and 24, from 10 a. m. to Id p. m. each day. Over twenty-five varieties will be dis- played somewhat as they grow in their native surroundings. They arc being shown by A. C. Burrage to give the general public a better idea of the beauty of our native orchids and arouse a greater interest in the preservation and perpetuation of these and other wild f
