This 1892 illustration shows Boabdil bidding farewell to Granada. With him is his wife and mother - and accompanying them were said to have been as many as 100 of his court. Boabdil was the 22nd and last Nasrid (Arab-Muslim) ruler of Granada in Iberia. Boabdil surrendered to King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain on January 2, 1492. Boabdil's official name was Abu Abdallah Muhammad XII
