Moran made his second visit to the Navy’s only boot camp and was the reviewing officer at the weekly Pass-in-Review (PIR) graduation. More than 830 recruits officially became Sailors at the PIR. A capping ceremony is where recruits officially recognized as Sailors by donning their Navy ball caps after successfully completing Battle Stations on board USS Trayer (BST 21). Trayer, a 210-foot-long Arleigh Burke-class destroyer simulator, the Navy’s largest, is the platform where recruits take their final test, Battle Stations, a week before graduating. Battle Stations is a 12-hour capstone event of what the recruits show and perform what they have learned over their eight weeks of boot camp. It is 17 different scenarios, including firefighting, damage control, watch standing and mass casualty evacuations. After successfully completing Battle Stations, the recruits get to hand in their Recruit Ball Caps for a Navy Cap, signifying that they are no longer recruits. RTC trains more than 37,000 Sailors annually. (Official Navy photo by Scott A. Thornbloom/Released) CNP remembers 9-11 in Chicago and Naval Station Great Lakes 140912-N-IK959-072
