A typical chimney on a stone built house in the Cévennes region of France.
A wood fire is an essential part of the stone-built houses in the Cévennes region of France. A typical Cévenol chimney always has capping stones to stop the heavy rain, that is common in the region, from going down the chimney. These capping stones are often supported with other stones. A large piece of quartz is traditionally placed on top of the whole structure.
