Wasting of the fleshy eminence at the base of the thumb (thenar eminence) in a 55 year old male patient with carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome leads to numbness, muscle weakness and pain in the fingers, because of a trapped nerve which passes into the hand under ligaments of the wrist.
