Scarcely large enough for the com-mercial orchard, unless a special market can bemade for it where the high quality will beappreciated. Tree a spreading, stocky grower(should be top worked), bears early and abun-dantly. Fruit small, dull green, fine grained,richly flavored, sugary and aromatic. A finecoooking pear. Season December. It can beplanted near the street along fence lines, avenues and many places whereother fruit would not be prolific. Cherries always find a ready market at aprofitable price. The trees thrive in any well drained soil. The Duke andMorello, or acid varieties, are hardy, while the Hearts and Bigarreaus, orsweet sorts, will resist cold weather and can be grown in most places. A two-year-old Cherry tree will bear four quarts of fruit. A ten-year-oldtree will produce from 100 to 300 pounds.
