Leukaemia cell. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a leukaemic (cancerous) t-lymphocyte white blood cell derived from a patient with acute t-cell leukaemia (T-ALL). Leukaemia is a type of cancer that affects the bone marrow and white blood cells (leucocytes), disrupting the levels of normal, healthy blood cells and resulting in damage to the immune system (among other symptoms). Possible treatments include anti-cancer drugs, radiotherapy and bone marrow transplants. Magnification: x8000 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
