The finest summer show seen here for years was that staged at Horticultural hall August 8 and 9, and it was a thousand pities that such an exhibition could not have been arranged for con- vention week, as it would have proved a refreshing change from the Mechanics hall trade show. Fancy caladiums, phloxes, gladioli, asters, buddleias and herbaceous plants were the great features of the show, which filled the main and small exhi- bition halls, loggia and rotunda. In the gladiolus classes Chamberlain & Gage, William Sim and George Page, gardener for Mrs. Frederick Ayer, won the leading honors. Chamberlain & Gage's basket of myrtle, which won first for best hamper or basket, was a beauty. William Sim had a grand col- lection, showing Lilly Leaman, HoUan- dia, Halley and Kunderi Glory, extra fine. John Lewis Childs had a nice dis- play. His new Whitest White received honorable mention. B. Hammond Tracy had a large collection, tastefully ar- ranged. There were also gladiolus dis- plays from Miss H. A. Biordan and others. In the perennial phlox classes pre- miums went to F. J. Rea, T. C. Thur- low's Sons, Bay State Nurseries, East- ern Nurseries and M. Sullivan, gardener for William Whitman. The quality was. Orders solicited for all parts of Connecticut. Hartford, Conn.
