The coaches used on the narrow gauge Brocken Railway which follows the former East-West German border to the summit of the Brocken mountain the highest peak (1125m ), in the Harz Mountains National Park. The peak of the Brocken was a military base which has only been open to the public for a relatively short time. Until the Berlin Wall came down the mountain was off limits to all but the Soviet Army.
