wallks of the red fort, Delhi, India, against a clear blue sky.

The red fort is one of Delhi, Indias' largest and most popular tourist destinations. Every year on India's Independence Day (15 August), the Prime Minister of India hoists the national flag at the Red Fort and delivers a nationally-broadcast speech from its ramparts. The Red Fort was the residence of the Mughal emperor for nearly 200 years, until 1857. Today it houses a number of museums. The fort was constructed in 1648 by the fifth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the palace of his fortified capital Shahjahanabad, The Fort is surrounded by massive enclosing walls of red sandstone, pictured in this image.
