The whale shark, found in tropical seas, is the world's largest fish, reaching an average length of 8 metres. A slow-moving filter feeder, it is harmless to humans. They are thought to live to an age of between 60 and 150 years. Photographed at Southern Ari Atoll, in the Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean.
