STEVENS Mr. Stevens is an engineer whose specialtyis power plants, be they steam, electric, orhydro-electric. He is in no sense a contrac-tor, but a consulting engineer v^^hose knowl-edge and analysis on design, constructionand management has been obtained in thatmost practical of colleges—experience. Hehas never had to unlearn the technical teach-ings of impractical courses w^hich often ob-struct the early progress of the professionalengineer. The National Association of Cotton Manu-facturers thought so w^ell of Mr. Stevensservices rendered to that industry during the year 1917 that it presented to him the Asso-ciation Medal of 1918 for having contributedmost for the advancement of the cotton in-dustry through his paper Evolution of theSteam Turbine in the Textile Industry.
