The ruins of Neath Abbey Neath South Wales
The ruins of a former cistervian abbey plus the substantial features of a Tudor mansion, Neath Abbey was originally founded in c1130 and fairly wealthy in its heyday. In 1539 after the dissolution of the monasteries it was partly converted into a private house. Although it was occupied as such until apout the end of the 17th century, the location was used for copper smelting purposes during the industrial revolution leading to its current ruined state. The site was cleared and preserved during the 1920s.
