The pleasure of cross-country run- To the Editor : I enclose the accom-panying photographto show the result offollowing the practiceof physical culture forten years. I have succeeded asa cross-country runnerbecause of the study Ihave made of physicalculture. One of myambitions was to the value of physi-cal culture in the pop-ular winter sport ofcross-country 1899 I won the San-dow bronze medal forsymmetrical musculardevelopment, but I wasunable to secure thedesired increase in thedevelopment of thelegs. At this time Ibecame interested inrunning and other ex-ercises of value inbuilding muscularstrength of the four years I prac-ticed exercises regular-ly, using all .the mus-cles of the body. I won allthree of my clubshandicaps in 1905. Iwon the senior cham-pionship medal of thesame reason and I wasin the team that beatthe pick of the Contin-ent in Paris in of the thirtymedals were won incross-country races andthis is certainly a re-markable proof of thevalue of physical cul-ture.
