Saigyô plum blossom; Saigyô ume; A series for the Hanazono poets association; Hanazono bantsuzuki. An ink stone with a silver statue of a cat on a standard of lacquer and a straw hat. The Saigyô plum blossom, depicted against a blue background, is named after the priest and poet Saigyô (1118-1190), who once got a silver image of a cat as a sign of valuation of the Shogun. Since Saigyô was loyal to the emperor, he gave away the image. The hat refers to images from the poet while, he admires the Fuji mountain. The ink stone refers to its poetry activities.
