The tit T of thepunch is now entered upon the rivet and the rivet punchedout of place. A rivet like the one in Fig. 164 is removed .A >. Figure 165Fastening furnace bearers lite Dcrry Cullard by applying the punch P as indicated. In this case therivet is punched directly through the sheet. There are other cases of bad rivets besides thosementioned. If the rivet is machine driven and if theboiler has not been raised to the proper height, a rivetwill be driven with the head out of the center of the can readily be seen on the boiler on account of theuniform pitch as the eccentricity of the head makes thepitch unequal. Many boilers are supported upon the frame by meansof furnace bearers. These are frequently attached to 196 Stay bolts. the side sheet by studs and on account of the excessiveweight of the boiler, filled with water, the studs are tappedinto both the sides sheet and the liner. These studsare placed at the diagonal D, D, Fig. 165, joining the staybolts. The liner L is held in place by several bolts B andthe sheet is reamed and tapped for the stay bolt S. Afterseveral of these holes have been tapped a
