Cape Wrath Ferry, Sutherland. Visitor stands on slipway looking over Kyle of Durness to Beinn Spionnaidh, as ferryman goes to collect more passengers.

The only way for visitors to access the Cape Wrath peninsula, and the lighthouse at the North Western tip of the Scottish Mainland (other than via an extremely arduous long trek over very difficult and rugged terrain), is via the small passenger ferry which crosses the Kyle of Durness, a shallow tidal This links up with a small minibus which takes visitors along a rough narrow road to the end of the peninsula. Because the Kyle is so shallow, it is sometimes only possible to use a very small dinghy carrying three or four passengers, as in these images.
