Pemberton Almshouses, St Albans, Hertfordshire, were founded by Roger Pemberton in 1627. Legend has it that Roger was out shooting with a bow and arrow when he accidently killed a widow and ni remorse founded the almshosues for six poor widows. A metal arrowhead can be seen at the top of the gateway.
