Looking up the wooden escalators of the Tyne pedestrian and cyclists' tunnel, Jarrow to Howden, north east England, UK
The river Tyne pedestrian and cyclists tunnels were first opened in 24th July 1951. They link Jarrow on the south bank with Howden on the north bank. At the time of writing (September 2012) the tunnels were due to have a major refurbishment, so these photos might be the last opportunity to see the tunnel in more or less its original state.
