Only in the case of small machines, is usemade of line shafting, and here a few machines are drivenfrom a short shaft which is usually belted to a motor. An-other important advantage is the gain which is made in theproductive capacity of the machines; this shortens the timerequired for a given piece of work and hence decreases thelabor cost.
