It was a dark and stormy night, and the otiicer of the watch was not a, little sur- prised to see a wet, dirty figure coming on board dragging a wild goose by the neck. The cabin- door sentry wanted to stop me, but I explained that I was the captain's cook of the Druid, and wished to see the ca]itain; so was atimitted, and we had a good time together. Next day I returned Captain Meade's official visit in cocked hat and epaulets.^ I have reason to remembi'r Long Harbour, for it was there my best salmon-rod was lost, on t])is very night, I believe.
