Long-Plumed Avens (Geum triflorum), Rose Family, Bridger Teton National Forest, Wyoming, USA

The Long-plumed Avens is also called Old Man's Whiskers or Prairie Smoke. It is found on plains, hillsides, and ridges in medium-dry soil and flowers from May until the first part of July. The Indians would make a weak tea from the boiled roots which tasted like sassafras tea. The Blackfeet Indians are supposed to have used the root as an eye wash.
