The ruins of Ruthven Barracks near Kingussie in Highland Scotland seen from B970 to the south

Ruthven Barracks were built in 1716 and increased in size by General Wade in 1734 and then destroyed by the rebelling Highlanders in 1746 after the failure of the 1745 uprising. This fortification was located on General Wade's military road leading from the south to Inverness and Fort George.
