She knew that therelived at Pithoragarh, at the foot ofChandag Heights, among the Hima-layas, a group of outcast lepers, andthither she proceeded. Only one ofher relatives, a sister, was in her confi-dence when she left home in 1891. Theintervening years have been a record ofpatient and successful work, and an in-stitution has been built up that in manyrespects is a model of orderliness andexcellence. Happily, seven years later,the physicians began to hold out hope ofultimate recovery, and could at least de-clare that the disease was checked.
