No doubt many of my customers could well afford to buy gladiolus bulbs but I am sure that others had to deprive them- selves of luxuries or even of some necessities in order to get bulbs. But this is the way with gladiolus fans. They must have glads if at all possible. The thnp menace has been considerably relieved this past season Many people whose glads were a complete failure two years ago have had no trouble this past season. Many of them did nothing but disinfect their bulbs before planting. Others both disinfected and sprayed. All bulbs should be disinfected before planting so that you will be absolutely sure in your own mind that the thnp do not come on the bulbs. If you do this you can't blame your bulb dealer. Of course thnp can come from outside sources and because of this I would urge everyone to be on the lookout for them when the plants are very small and if there is the least sign of any I should begin to spray at once even- few days with the Paris Green, molasses and water formula. I thoroughly believe that if we give as much attention to our glads as to other flowers that we will not have any trouble with thnp. As business conditions improve prices will certainly go up and I really believe that now is the time to buy gladiolus or anything else. Many gladiolus growers have been raising and selling bulbs at a loss or at least at no profit but if business conditions improve they will be glad to take advantage of improved conditions and raise prices.
