Water scorpion (Nepa cinerea). This species of water scorpion is found in Central Europe and the British Isles. It lives in ponds and feeds on aquatic animal organisms, particularly insects. The scorpion breathes through the long tube attached to its abdomen, known as a siphon. The siphon is thrust above the surface of the water, allowing the scorpion to breathe while it is underwater.
