a dotterel amongst the rocks on cairngorm in the highlands of scotland in may

A female dotterel on her breeding grounds in may. An unusual species in that the female is more brightly colored/coloured than the male and role reversal occurs. The female mates with several males and lays several clutches of eggs as it is the males that incubate them. A good strategy in terms of possible offspring numbers each with different genetics.
