Open the sheath contain-ing the vessels, so as to be able to trace their course. Toaccomplish this, the under jaw may be sawn through at itssymphysis ; the zygoma can then be cut through with a saw,and a transverse section may be made from the end of thenasal bones to the lateral part of the inferior maxillary ; andthe superior maxillary bone may be taken away, so as to showthe interior of the nose. By this section the dissector willhave little difficulty in tracing the ramifications of the carotidartery and the nerves. The tongue may remain, and can bepulled tense by the use of the hooks. The accompanyingplan will, no doubt, assist the dissector in his labor. 100 THE DISSECTORS - 26 x. The situation of the The situation of the The scalenus anticus. 10. The scalenus medius. 11.
