Solar parabolic mirrors at the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) in Cologne, Germany. These mirrors at DLR are part of Germany's largest research group on solar concentrating technologies. The parabolic mirrors work by tracking the Sun across the sky and focusing the Sun's rays onto tubes that contain synthetic oil. The oil becomes super-heated and is used to boil water for steam turbine generators. The aim of the research is to develop options for cost reduction, for the storage of concentrated sunlight in chemical form and for the production of solar fuels.
