Scene featuring Mesa table top mountains at the Breakaways near Coober Pedy, South Australia. Landscape, desert scenery.
The Breakaways are a striking & unique example of Australian outback arid semi desert scenery. From the flat topped mesas to the stony gibber stone desert, the remnants of millions of years provide a wealth of geological interests and breathtaking views for travelers. Looking out over the breakaways it is not too hard to believe that over 70 million years ago, a vast inland sea covered the area. The region is rich in Aboriginal history and is home to an array of native fauna and flora, which have successfully adapted to one of the world's harshest environments.
