Detail of the old sundial on the front façade of the Parish church of La Madellena. Beneath it is a traditional clock for cloudy days. La Maddalena is the capital town of the island of the same name. Here you can explore the cobbled piazzas with their bustling cafes and shops or enjoy the waterfront. There is always a busy holiday atmosphere here where the only way of visiting is by boat. It is famous for its popular beaches of Spalmatore and Basa Trinita. The island is characterised by its rocky, granite landscape. It is connected to the nearby island of Caprera, famous as the birthplace of Giuseppe Garibaldi, by a wartime bridge.
