Cizhou stoneware polychrome pillow with goose in a lotus pond, Jin dynasty, China, 12th century. A Cizhou octagonal pillow, the body of which is covered all over with a white under-slip. The top is decorated with an incised scene of a white goose in a green lotus pond within a three-lobed white diamond-shaped medallion, and four incised yellow peony sprays. The six sides are incised with peony or lotus sprays. The pillow is covered with white, yellowish brown and green lead glazes. The base is unglazed. The air hole, to prevent the piece exploding in the kiln, is at the top of the rear side.
