The Wheel and cycling trade review . riangulardog has been done away with, and the pointof contact with the bar threaded, which al-lows of very much more rigid adjustmentthan in the past. A noticeable feature is that a wider sectionof wood rim has been used; heretofore anunusually narrow rim has been employedby the Pope Manufacturing Company. The chain adjustment is very neatly de-vised; it is practically hidden from view, being on the inner side of the rear fork end,and instead of binding on the axle, as isusually done, the adjusting screw touches ona slight offset from the cone itself. The oil-ing is done, as in last years wheels, throughthe side of the cone, thus making the surfaceof the hub perfectly smooth, and without theusual oil cup or spring clip. The same pat-tern of chain used by the Pope Company forthe last five years is still retained. It is in the crank-bearing, however, that themost improvement is apparent. Their two-piece crank has been retained, but it has beenvastly improved. The left crank and left pari. of the axle are forged in one piece, while theright crank and right section of the axle areforged together with a drum, to which thesprocket-wheel is screwed, doing away withthe customary sprocket spider. This drum isdished in such a way that it brings the sprock-et-wheel directly in a line with the balls of thebearing, and at the same time allows thesprocket-wheel to be screwed on, and held inplace by means of a lock nut. The sleeve thatholds the crank-axle together is practicallythe same form as heretofore used, but thebearing itself is made in such a manner thatthe cases can be screwed from the bottombracket, and the balls retained. This yearboth cranks screw into the sleeve with a left-hand thread, instead of one left and one right, the left-hand axle being split diagonally, sothat screwing on the sleeve and jamming it
