Dyeingthe mustache is but little practiced nowadays, but itis very important that the barber should know how. 62 THE BARBEUS MANUAL, for serving- customers with this part of the work leadsto other trade. In dyeing, no matter what kind of dye is used, firstthoroughly clean the hair or mustache. Sea-foam isthe best to use for this purpose as it dries the hair is thoroughly cleaned apply No. 1,either with the fingers or tooth brush. No. 1 simplyprepares the hair for the dye, and does not color or. effect the skin. After drying No. 1 by fanning: (notrubbing) apply No. 2 with a small brush, using itover the comb as shown in cut. Great care must be taken in dyeing the mustacheor hair, to have a very little of the material ca thebrush so as to prevent its running onto the skin, ^hemost difficult part of this work is getting close to the THE BARBERS MANUALr. 63 roots of the hair without touching- the flesh. Whenthe dye is once on it cannot be washed out, evenwith soap or ammonia, and it is obliged to remainuntil worn off. Where other kinds of dye are used they are appliedthe same as No. 2, first by cleansing- the hair andapplying the fluid, but these dyes do not change thecolor of the hair immediately.
