AYYAPPAN THEEYATTU kalamezhuthu

Ayyappan Theeyattu is a ritual practiced in temples of Kerala. As a preliminary exercise, there is the drawing of a kolam, A FLOOR PICTURE, WITH COLOURFUL NATURAL POWDERS. The performers wear costumes to resemble the concerned deity and sing and dance, enacting stories from mythology. Ilathalam (cymbals), Veekkan Chenda and Chenda (two types of drums) accompany the performance. The performer presents the story of Ayyappaa in a sign language. Background songs accompany the performance. This ritual is called Ayyappan Koothu, too.
