A Hydrofraise trench cutter is used to construct deep concrete walls that go down to bedrock through hard and difficult ground.

The Hydrofraise (or Hydromill) is a giant construction machine which can weight up to 80 tonnes and stand 18 metres high and is a marvel of sophisticated technology. Used to build underground concrete walls (called slurry or diaphram walls) and using onboard computer guidance, it cuts a trench using powerful hydraulic motors and rotating teeth set on twin drums through difficult ground that - when filled with concrete - create retaining walls under the surface. Some of these walls have been built to a depth of 80 metres and are used to built basements, retaining walls for deep excavations, underground railways, and walls for pumping stations, quays, cofferdams, and shafts. Since these reinforced walls are built as a series of panels, they can be any required length and can be constructed as right angles, polygonal, T-shaped or cross-shaped structures.
