Many of them have been given by the War De-partment to Grand Army posts throughout the country foruse as decorations, or as tropies of the war. Two large Co-lumbiads, which had been captured at Port Royal, SouthCarolina, were thus given to the Post at Warsaw. The Gov-ernment delivered them at Warsaw, free of freight charges,and there they remained for some time, lying useless in thegrounds around the court house. In 1897, however, thecitizens of Warsaw took hold of the matter, and erected abastion, or foundation, of Indiana stone, and mounted theguns thereon, where they now make a handsome and showyappearance. For some years after the close of the war the questionof erecting, at Indianapolis, a grand monument to com-memorate the achievements of
