Lying in a rolling countrydotted with conical and elongated woodedhills, and with a range of the Blue Moun-tains distinct in the west, it is picturesquein its natural features, and now marked by348 monuments and statues costing $3,000,-000 and intersected by sixty miles of superbroadways costing $8,000 a mile, it is themost finished and the most attractive ofthe Government parks. The town of Gettysburg lies eight milesnorth of the Maryland line, sixty-sevenmiles north and a little west of Washingtonand thirty-six miles southwest of Harris-burg (measuring in an air line), and isreached by the Baltimore & Ohio R. way of Cherry Run, W. Va., or Hagers-town, Md.,
