Leopard (Panthera pardus) watching its prey (not seen) from amongst long grass. This solitary carnivore hunts small prey such as antelope and hares. It stalks its prey and creeps up to within a few metres before pouncing. The victim is then killed by a nape or throat bite. Despite its size and body weight, the leopard moves with agility in trees and will often drag its victim up into the branches before feeding. P. pardus is found in wooded savannah and forests throughout sub- Saharan Africa and southern Asia. Photographed in the Mala Mala Game Reserve, South Africa.
