Emperor Augustus (63 BC-14 AD). Marble bust of the Ancient Roman emperor Augustus. Augustus was the first emperor of Rome, following the assassination of Julius Caesar on 15th March 44BC. He is credited with expanding the empire and ruling for over 40 years from 27 BC until his death. This bust is thought to be from a sculpture that measured between and 4 metres high. It was found in the mouth of the River Rhone, France. Photographed at the Departmental Museum of Ancient Arles, France.
