The washer is put on over the end ofthe bolt outside or after the nut, and not between the nutand bolt seat, as is usually the case. It is then screwed upby hand until it has reached the face of the nut, which isassumed to be first firmly screwed to place. Then a slightturn of the wrench is sufficient to fix or jam the washer toa lock. The rim of the washer is amply sufficient forwrench use, while not as thick as lock nuts now in use. ■wis (liiililiilliij: Electric B>j., Journal,. A New Lock Washer Hence the saving in bolt length by using this washer is ob-vious, a not inconsiderable item for large consumers. The Hugtite is patented and made in all sizes of suitablestock. In tests it has been found to withstand successfullyjars and vibration as well as contraction and expansion. Itis equally well adapted to right or left-hand thread of thesame pitch and diameter. It has been used by the Springfield Street Railway andWorcester Consolidated Street Railway in track work andother service and has also been successfully tested on steamrailroads, autotrucks, drop hammers and machinery subjectto considerable vibration. The manufacturers will make an exhibit at the Denverconvention.
