The skeleton of "Lucy" housed in the national museum of Addis Ababa.


The National Museum close to the University of Addis Ababa Graduate School, houses numerous antiquarian relics and archaeological artifacts showing the history of Ethiopia from prehistoric times to the modern day. Its most famous exhibit is the million year old skeleton of Lucy - Found in the Afar Depression in 1974 by Donald C. Johansen it was named after the beatles song "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" but the Ethiopians prefer to call her Dinknesh (wonderful). Her scientific name is "Australopithecus afarensis".
