Ruins of sandstone architecture in Guerrero Viejo, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The city was abandoned in 1953 when the Falcon dam began operation. Completion of the dam on the Rio Grande River created an impoundment (Falcon Lake) that inundated several towns and villages in the Rio Grande Valley.
