Squatters' houses on St. Pauli Hafenstraße, Hamburg, Germany, circa 1988. The grafitti reads: "We will not go into your concrete ghettos. We will not sell out." Throughout the 1980s these squats were a focal point for various social conflicts, with riots and violent conflicts between the squatters and police forces or groups of fascists mixed with hooligans. The houses were sold to a cooperative to defuse the potential for conflict between the residents and the state in 1995. Black and white film photograph
