France, Somme (80), Saint-Riquier, Saffron harvest at Fabrice Houdant's Safran du Scardon in Saint-Riquier. Fabrice started growing saffron, the most expensive spice in the world (€40 a gram), two years ago. He planted 50,000 bulbs in August and is now harvesting the flowers. Saffron is highly prized by rabbits and field mice, which have to be fought constantly, here the leaves have been nibbled away without preventing the flower from growing.
