Brabin's Old School Plaque


Brabin's Old School Plaque. Chipping, Lancashire. 'Brabin's Old School. Opened in 1684, endowed by the will of John Brabin, a wealthy cloth merchant. Provided free education and clothing for local poor children. The front door lintel bears the initials of the first trustees, Christopher and Robert Parkinson, James Haythornthwaite and Richard Marsden. The inscription 'Dose Disce Vel Discede' translates as 'Teach, Learn or Leave.'
